
The Daily Dhaka Tribune published an editorial on Tobacco companies are not paying much attention regarding negative or social impacts to public. The editorial came out in April 18, 2014 as a follow up of a previous story they published in April 8, 2014 about health hazard and tobacco processing facilities in Lalmonirhat. The Tobacco industries are expanding their business without caring the safety of the farmers while farming tobacco. On the top of that the industries are also employing children with part time job for tobacco processing.

Besides, Tobacco leaves are considered as good as money in buying regular commodities during the peak period of tobacco harvesting, says an investigative report published in the Daily Star on 18 April 2014 by one of the ATMA member S Dilip Roy. The report says, Tobacco leaves are used for any type of economic transaction in 50 villages of Lalmonirhat District. From Madrasa students to any traders are taking tobacco leaves in exchange for commodities to donation for supporting students who are studying in Madrasa.

The Tobacco industry is bluntly violating the ‘Smoking and Tobacco Products Usages (Control) (Amended) Act 2013’ in Meherpur using innovative promotional tactics. The online news portal swadeshnews24.com published an article featuring this issue on April 18, 2014.
