Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) in association with Asian Paints, IRCON and Marico Bangladesh is organising an Evening of Rabindra Sangeet by prominent Bangladeshi exponent, Mrs. Lily Islam, at 6:30 PM on June 20, 2014 at the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre, H.No. 35, Road No. 24, Gulshan-1.

Mrs. Lily Islam, trained in the Mecca of Rabindra Sangeet– the Vishwa Bharati University in Shantiniketan, is an outstanding Rabindra Sangeet exponent for the last three decades. She had the rare opportunity of being trained by legendary Rabindra Sangeet artists like Mrs. Konika Bandopadhyay and Ms. Neelima Sen.

She is a leading performer in all TV channels in Bangladesh and India over the past two decades and represented Bangladesh on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the publication of Geetobitan organized by the Government of West Bengal in 2007. She also represented the Government of Bangladesh at the inauguration of the joint celebrations of the 150th Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore between India and Bangladesh at New Delhi and Kolkata in May 2011. She is the winner of the ICCR scholarship for her research on “Evolution of the Stylization of Tagore Songs”.

Mrs. Islam is a special grade artist in Bangladesh Television and Betar and released three (3) audio cassettes, ten (10) CDs’ and one (1) VCD of Rabindra Sangeet in her career. She also contributed her voice for the historic CD of compilation of Tagore songs—“Shruti Geetobitan”—released in December 2011. Mrs. Islam is also a versatile dancer of Bharat Natyam, Manipuri and Rabindra Nrittyo. She has participated in drama workshops besides being a judge at important cultural events.

Mrs. Lily Islam led a delegation from her cultural organisation, “Uttarayan”, to India for presentation of a Multi-media Production on Tagore from December 14-20, 2012, at the Kamani Auditorium in Delhi and at the Rabindranath Tagore Centre in Kolkata under ICCR sponsorship.
